List Building: 7 Ways To Build Your Email List

By September 28, 2016June 28th, 2020Business

Your email list is one of your biggest assets and the lifeblood of your online business.  The goal is to build a quality email list of ideal prospects and potential buyers.  The bigger your subscriber list, the more sales you are likely to make.
Having an email list is one of the best ways to build relationships with your subscribers. You can talk to them on a regular basis providing valuable information and resources.  Also, providing them with products and services they can use. If you have not started building an email database for your business, I highly recommend that you get started right away.

Once you are clear about your target market and your products/services, then your next step is to start building a list of targeted leads and subscribers. List building techniques.

7 Ways To Build Your List

1. Give Away Valuable Free Stuff

The 2 main ways of building your list fast, is by giving something away for free. This will attract new prospects and leads to join your list.  You create something of value in exchange for their email address.  Make your irresistible offer something that is compelling and with great useful information.

A few examples:

  • Write an ebook or PDF report
  • Video tutorials
  • Audio CD or MP3 download
  • Mini e-course

2. Blog/Website

The number one goal when someone visits your blog/website is that you want to capture their name and emails. All of the traffic that visits your website should have an opportunity to be a part of your community or to receive your free offer.  Add an opt in box on your blog to capture email addresses.  On the opt-in form, be sure to have a clear call to action to increase the conversion rate of visitors opting into your list. You can get started with an email marketing service such as ConvertKit, Mailchimp, Aweber, Infusionsoft.

Places to add an opt-in form on your blog:

  • Above the fold (so it will be the 1st thing a visitor will see)
  • Top of the sidebar
  • At the end of each blog post
  • On your about me page

3. Capture Page

A capture page is designed with the purpose to capture leads (email addresses to build your list).  Capture page is a short website with a title, description, or just a few bullet points stating the benefits of what the prospect will get for opting into your list.

  • Create a powerful headline.
  • Add a video, image, or list benefits using bullet points.
  • Add the code of the opt in box that you created from the email marketing service you chose.

There are many capture page software and services.

4. Pop Up Form

Have you ever noticed when you visit some sites you are welcomed with a pop up form. Some people may find pop up forms to be very annoying, but I think that they are a very effective way to increase your leads & subscribers.  Pop up forms are a great way to increase signups to your list.

5.  Host Webinars

This is another great way to build your list and grow your online business.  Plan out your content then schedule a date and time of your presentation.  Share the link with your target audience so they can sign up to attend. One of the best things I love about hosting webinars is that you are building your list and also using that platform to offer valuable information along with your products, offers and/or services.  You can use anymeeting.com… or… gotomeeting.com (these are just a few webinar platforms).

6.  Social Media

Setup your social media platforms to work for you 24/7…. building your list with free offers.  Sending targeted traffic directly to your offer converts quicker than just having a link to your website.

  • On Instagram, add your free giveaways to your profile section.
  • In the Twitter bio, put a link to directs traffic to a call to action. This could be a capture page (squeeze page) to collect names and emails.
  • Setup a Facebook business page.  Generate subscribers by sharing links to helpful information leading back to your free offers. Also put links to your offers in your about me section.

7.  Email Signature

Promote your special offer or free gift in your email signature.  Setup your personal email and business email to list your offer links at the bottom of each email. Each time that you send out emails, your offer links will be automatically attached.
