Setting S.M.A.R.T. Goals

By August 22, 2016January 7th, 2022Business, Personal Development

Whether you’re trying to accomplish personal or business goals, a life of accomplishment begins with setting goals. People set goals ranging from “loosing weight” to “starting a business”. But, some fall by the way side before their goals are accomplished. Some of the reasons may be due to lack of focus or they do not commit to the process.

Have you accomplished any of your goals so far this year? If not, don’t put off any longer your ability to accomplish your goals and to live your dreams. I just want to encourage you to get started.

For the last few months, I have been doing some serious focusing to make sure that my checklist for last quarter was completed.  I started my podcast show, my online courses, and my online shop. These are just a few things I had on my list to get started by the end of the 3rd quarter.

In the real world there is no perfect time to start.  If you are waiting until conditions are perfect, you probably will never get anything done.  There will always be something that is not quite right. Things do not have to be perfect to get started -the key is to just “Start”.  You have to start right where you are, take action, and then make improvements along the way. Giants start small.

S.M.A.R.T. Goals are…

  • Specific
  • Measurable
  • Attainable
  • Realistic
  • Timeable

Specific:  Who, What, When, and How

Know exactly what you want to accomplish. Have a clear vision of where you are now and which direction you want to go.  Define what needs to be done then move forward. Create an action plan.  Develop daily habits to keep you motivated and to keep you on the right track.

Measurable

Goals which can not be measured can not be managed.   Set deadlines for when your goals are expected to be accomplished.  If you want something done by 30 days, you need to know the start time and the end date. Measuring your goals answers how much and how many.

Attainable

Your goals must be within your reach according to your current situation. This is another reason why some people fall by the way side. They reach to high without knowing the exact process to make it happen. Then end up giving up to quickly. All that was needed was a plan and the steps. List the goals that are most important then create a massive action plan. Follow through.

Realistic

You have to truly believe that your goals can be accomplished.  You have to develop the “I can” attitude, then just do it.  Be willing to put the time and energy toward getting the job done.

Timeable

A goal must have a target date. Set deadlines.  Give your goals a timeframe. Decide on the timeframe you expect your goal to be complete.

Question:

-What will you like to accomplish?

-What skills do you need to develop in order to accomplish your goals?

“Nike” said it best,,,Just Do It!  Whatever your goal may be for the year-Just Do It and stick with it until it’s done! No matter how tough times may get, persevere until your goals are accomplished. Write your goals down then work it.
